New research finds link between human lifespan and chromosome terminal

According to foreign media reports, researchers from the well-known medical institution Kaiser Group (hereinafter referred to as "KP") recently collected genetic and medical data from 100,000 people in northern California, and found an interesting connection between human mortality and chromosomal termination.

At the annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics this week, they announced the latest research results. It is understood that the data they have collected so far can be called the largest "biological bank" in the history of the United States, with the most data. At the same time, they also found a new link between genetic variation and disease characteristics. But according to the curator of the biobank, this is just the beginning.

In fact, there are many projects devoted to collecting medical and DNA data from a large number of people, and devoting themselves to exploring the links between genes and human diseases, lifestyles, and personality. And the project is just one of them.

It is understood that these 100,000 California adults are protected by KP's healthcare system, so the research team scanned thousands of DNA genetic markers along their genomes, and also measured the chromosome ends of these adults . The chromosome ends are shortened with every cell division, until these chromosome ends reach the level of aging the cells.

Later, the researchers will use the genetic information to analyze the clinical data displayed in the electronic cases of these volunteers. It is understood that these volunteers have done a health survey report, the average age is 63 years old, 81% of them are white, and the rest are Asians, Latinos and African Americans. Studies have found that the older the person, the shorter the chromosome ends, and the shorter the chromosome ends in people who smoke and drink. At the same time, the researchers also found that the shorter chromosome ends are closely related to the individual's risk of death, although there have been previous reports. But at present, researchers are still not sure whether the shorter chromosome ends will directly lead to death to some extent, or other factors that can cause death.

It is reported that KP's biobank will collect different data from the patient's case, whether it is drug treatment information or a picture of the patient's brain, and these anonymous data are open to other external researchers. Researchers can also cooperate with the KP company team.

Aravinda Chakravarti, a human geneticist from Johns Hopkins University in the United States, said: "It is a good thing that they have a huge data system." At present, he is working with KP company is discussing cooperation matters.
